Concert Review
Coming off the success of their debut album What It Is To Burn, which went gold, Finch opened their first show of their mini tour at the sold out Roxy. It was also the second live show for their new drummer Marc Allen (formerly of San Diego’s own Counterfit) who fit in quite well. The band tore through favorites such as “Letters to You” and “New Beginnings”. Some new tracks from their forthcoming album Say Hello to Sunshine were also played such as “Bleed Brother Bleed” and the fan favorite being “Ink”, which had been requested several times throughout the night. The new songs played were much darker and heavier and definitely strayed away from the signature sound of “What It Is to Burn”. Something which the band has expressed it set out to do when making the second album, so as not to create What It Is To Burn Part II. "Ender" was played with the usual “Mayonnaise” by the Smashing Pumpkins tag added at the end, which actually works out quite well when they play it live. Looking around at the crowd, I couldn’t help think that 90% of the audience were probably still in diapers when that album came out.
